History of Barius I of the Hillmen[]
Early Life[]
Barius was born on January 9th 1399, as the son of Bontificius, son of Barabus. Barius' paternal grandmother was Valiria, daughter of General Vargus. Six years later Barius' sister Burga was born. On March 2nd 1418 Barius married Piliana, daughter of Palanir, son of Pilgor II, Lord of Borin. On August 9th Barius' son Bargor was born. Barius' father was executed by King Kaliron in 1420. On January 16th 1425 Burga married Zulagar, son of King Kaliron. On June 2nd 1426 their daughter Zulia was born. On December 2nd 1429 Kaliron died, aged 68. He was succeeded by his son Kaliron II of the Hillmen.
Reign of Kaliron II[]
Kaliron II was a tyrant. He had his brother, sister, nephew, sister-in-law, mother and wife executed out of fear for being replaced. He then adopted his niece Zulia. Many times people tried to murder Kaliron but all failed and then they and their families were executed. Barius wanted this to end so he rallied some friends and together they murdered the King and his son on December 5th, 1431. He then declared himself King of the Hillmen.
Reign[]
Barius started his reign with announcing that his successor would be the husband of Zulia, or her son. He then adopted her. He had Bargor engaged to the 8 years younger Zulia, even though they were first cousins and adopted siblings. Barius knew he had to fear one man, Vargus, he was Kaliron I's grandson and together with his son Verizian & Zulia the only living descendant of Kaliron I. Barius now thought of having Verizian as his successor. However this would mean he would not be succeeded by his son. Vargus had lived in the mountains during Kaliron II's rule, because he feared he would be murdered but now he had returned. Vargus told Barius that he did not desire the throne, he just wanted to live. On June 2nd 1440 Zulia and Bargor were married. On May 18th 1441 their daughter Bargia was born. On May 19th 1441 Verizian's son Vargus was born.
Death[]
On September 12th Bargor was murdered. He had been boasting about his position as future King to group of soldiers. This was immediately followed by a march to the palace, led by General Wandir. However a well placed arrow shot by Verizian killed Wandir. Vargus then announced that it was time for the true heir of Kaliron I to rise to the throne. He then took his sword and led them to Barius. They killed him and all his advisors, generals, ministers and servants. However Zulia and here daughter were kept alive by Vargus. Vargus then became King of the Hillmen and he married Zulia to Verizian.
